Happy Holidays! I can’t believe 2023 is drawing to a close. These past 12 months have truly represented the start of a transformation for the fellowships as spring of this year marked the beginning of our official journey towards pursuing subspecialty recognition in Complex Benign Gynecology. The American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ABOG) officially established a task force to explore the pathway for recognition by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) and ultimately the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Your incredible FMIGS Board of Directors has been working tirelessly to align the educational programming for the fellows and the infrastructure behind it towards this common goal. Currently there are 61 accredited and active fellowship sites including 7 that are international. I am proud to say that to date there are 631 graduates comprising the FMIGS legacy and we most recently matched an incoming class of 50 fellows this past fall.
FMIGS truly embodies what it means to continually elevate the quality of gynecologic care throughout the world. It has been an incredible honor to serve as President of the FMIGS Board of Directors this past year and work alongside such innovative and talented colleagues. I will continue to serve as Chair of the FMIGS subspecialty recognition task force and look forward to transitioning to Past President and welcoming Erin T. Carey, MD as your new President. I have no doubt that 2024 will be an even bigger and better year for the AAGL and FMIGS.
