Happy New Year!

After joining the Foundation of the AAGL Board of Directors in 2019, I have seen the passion that the FAAGL and its Board members continue to pursue in support of our community. As the current President, I am excited to continue the legacy of more than four decades of giving, unwavering support, and overall sponsorship that provide valuable benefits to our learners, our associates, and women’s health in general. My vision for the Foundation of the AAGL includes expanding our base, bringing more diversity to the negotiating table, and, most importantly, increasing the awareness of the Foundation and its role in supporting you, our members.

The FAAGL Board of Directors includes 11 talented members, each with a diverse background, but all with the goal of enhancing the Foundation through philanthropy. I cannot thank them enough for their time, thought-provoking insight, and generosity to serve on our Board.

I am pleased to introduce our three newest board members, Mary Bonnet, Andrew Brill, MD, and Louise P. King, MD, JD.

Mary Bonnet

Mary is Vice-President of the Oppenheim Group in West Hollywood, California, and is a cast member on the award-winning Netflix hit show “Selling Sunset.” She is passionate about women’s health and wants to use her platform to raise awareness.

“Every woman deserves the spotlight in matters of medical care, and I’m dedicated to ensuring the necessary resources and attention are at the forefront.

This isn’t just a personal chapter; it’s a grand performance on the global stage. Women’s health deserves a spotlight that extends beyond our local communities, captivating audiences worldwide. My vision is to elevate accessibility to healthcare, creating opportunities for women to prioritize their well-being and transcend geographical boundaries with grace, true compassion, and community.”

Andrew I. Brill, MD

Andrew has had a long history with the AAGL. He served as AAGL President, FMIGS Board President, and currently serves on the JMIG Editorial Board. Through these positions he had the opportunity to learn about the workings and priorities of the AAGL and has developed long-lasting relationships that personify a global movement collectively offering the highest care.

“The AAGL has been of fundamental importance for my professional growth and vows to provide the best of care for women. I think that the mission and vision statements of the Foundation are completely harmonious with my own beliefs and values.”

Louise P. King, MD, JD, FACOG

Louise is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School and a Surgeon within the Division of MIGS at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is an expert in law, ethics, and education and brings a unique perspective to the Foundation. Her vision for the Foundation includes a much stronger and more vocal role in the changing landscape of gynecologic surgery.

“My goal is to bring the unique perspectives of ethics, law, and education into conversations about how best to leverage our combined voices to lead the change we wish to see. Specifically, I see both ethical and legal duties that should drive OBGYN towards major reform in our surgical training and standards. I hope to create better suggestions for how these ethical and legal principles can be of help to us as we work together to push our discipline forward.”

This month, we announced the opening of the MIGS Simulation Grant Program! We are excited to offer grants ranging between $3,000 to $10,000 each, through the generous donations of Nash Moawad, MD and Barbara Levy, MD. The Foundation of the AAGL is seeking proposals to support MIGS Simulation Research endeavors in the field of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. For more information or to submit an application, please see the FAAGL MIGS Simulation Research Grant Application.

Through the work of the Foundation, we are seeing our Board Members, AAGL Members, and Industry Partners devoting their ideas, their resources, and some, even their lives, to providing the best possible care for women. As you think about the future and your legacy, remind yourself that none of us has the right to sit back and expect that the world is going to keep getting better. We have a responsibility to do everything we can to push women’s healthcare in the right direction.
