Dear Friends, Dear AAGL members,
First, I wish you and all your loved ones a wonderful and happy 2024. For many reasons, this year will stay in history; let’s hope for the best for our countries and people, and let’s hope the best for our planet and the future of our children!
A French philosopher once said democracy makes power “an empty place,” which means that it does not belong to anyone and must be constantly challenged. It is even more important for medical societies as the president has no real political power! In other words, President of AAGL is a function, for it to work, every AAGL member must be part of it!
Being “president” has never been an ambition or a goal for me. When AAGL proposed for me to run, I was stunned by surprise and deeply honored.
So now what for? For AAGL, I would propose three goals which are not original, but were, are and will remain essential for the years to come!
- Make minimally invasive surgery accessible to everyone whatever their income, race, and gender, in remote places of developed countries as well as in middle-and low-income countries!
- Make minimally invasive surgery ecologically and economically sustainable. Both are so strongly linked that the first will never be accessible without improving the second by making high quality surgery as affordable as possible!
- Educate about and against violence to woman, and to improve the management of gynecological disease accounting for this societal background!
In Nashville, I felt that together we have the power to create concrete solutions which can change the situation. We should never give in to powerlessness and maintain the courage to look forward and act!
This presidential position is yours! Through the contact form below, please feel free to propose whatever you think may improve our role in elevating gynecologic surgery and improving women’s lives!
